Why It Matters Where You Get Your DPF Cleaned
Many believe that when a DPF becomes full, it simply needs to be baked and reinstalled on the vehicle.
If that were true, you would never have to remove your filter from the vehicle. Your vehicle bake your DPF at least once a month, depending on how full it is.

There are several steps to achieving a properly clean DPF. Some shops would have you to believe that they have the cheapest price, but if your filter is not properly cleaned it will not be long before you will have to clean it again. You wil also not be getting optimum horsepower and fuel mileage. The high pressure from your engine packs the ash into your filter and it can be hard to remove. The flow specs are difficult for every filter brand, ask your service provider if they know what your flow specs should be after servicing your filter.

There are those that believe that washing the DPF is a good way to clean the filter. While washing the filter removes a large portion of the ash, it is not possible to achieve the cleanest filter possible by just washing it. Also the risk of washing your filter is that it needs to be completely dry before you reinstall the filter on the vehicle. The filters are very hard to dry. The process would be to blow out as much of
the water as possible, then let it sit in the sun for approximately five days.
If all the water is not out of the filter, you run the risk of damaging the engine, each time that you do this it is causing slight damage to the engine. Also washing the particulate matter onto the ground carries a hefty fine. Cleaning your filter properly is not costly, don't risk damaging your engine or getting a fine. It is not lawful to wash exhaust waste into the water system.
